Debian stuff

Normally only root has write access to the usb devices. The following gives a certain group all necessary rights:

  • apt-get install gphoto2 gtkam
  • mkdir /usr/lib/hotplug/libgphoto2
  • /usr/lib/libgphoto2-2/print-usb-usermap > /etc/hotplug/usb.usermap

  • cp /usr/share/doc/libgphoto2-2/linux-hotplug/usbcam.group /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam
  • chmod +x /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam

  • Add a group called "camera" in /etc/group and add desired users
