Evolution is nice but Thunderbird's calendar extension "lightning" is also quite nice and supports Google Calendar.

• Install lightning (on debian simply right-click and save the .xpi file and install in icedove)
• Install the provider for Google Calendar
• Copy the evolution data (ical data format) from /home/$USERNAME/.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics to some /tmp file and import it in Google Calendar
